Asthenosphere Asthénosphère
One of the rheological subdivisions of the Earth. The weak (deforms plastically) layer of soft (yet solid) rock comprising the lower part of the upper mantle, and over which the solid lithospheric plates slide (adapted from: Grotzinger et al., 2007).
