Hot Spot  Point chaud
A volcanic center found far from a plate boundary (e.g.: Hawaiian Islands). Hot spots which are a few 100's of kilometres across and persist for at least a few tens of millions of years, are hypothesized to be the surface expression of a mantle plume (Neuendorf et al., 2005).
